Zanzibar Helicopter Luggage Guide 2026

Our standard allowance is 15 kg per person in soft-sided bags only.

This size fits comfortably in the helicopter’s limited storage compartments.

• Soft bags only – Duffel bags, backpacks, or soft suitcases are ideal.
• No hard cases or rigid suitcases
• No wheeled luggage (wheels and frames do not fit well)
• No metal frames or rigid structures
• Maximum weight per person: 15 kg (including hand luggage)

These restrictions are necessary due to the compact storage space in helicopters and safety requirements for weight distribution.

If your bags are too large, too heavy, or have wheels/frames, we can arrange additional luggage transfer by road at an extra fee. Please inform us in advance so we can plan accordingly and avoid any delays on departure day.

• Use lightweight, flexible soft bags or duffels.
• Roll clothes instead of folding to save space and reduce wrinkles.
• Distribute weight evenly across bags if traveling with others.
• Keep valuables, documents, medication, and electronics in your personal carry-on.
• Avoid packing fragile items that could be affected by minor movement during flight.
• Label all bags clearly with your name and contact number.

The following items are generally not permitted or require prior approval:

• Drones (special permit required – contact us in advance)
• Large camera equipment or tripods (must fit within 15 kg limit)
• Sports equipment (surfboards, diving gear – advance notice needed)
• Liquids in containers larger than 100ml (standard airport rules apply)

If you have special equipment (e.g., dive gear for Pemba), let us know when booking so we can advise the best solution.

• Airport to Resorts: 15 kg per person
• Zanzibar to Pemba: 15 kg per person
• Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam: 15 kg per person
• Scenic Flights: Same 15 kg limit applies

The allowance is consistent across all our helicopter services.

We can arrange separate road transfer for oversized or extra luggage. This service is available at an additional cost and must be requested at the time of booking. Please provide details of the extra bags so we can give you an accurate quote.
