Airport Transfers in Tanzania and Zanzibar

Most of our guests land at Kilimanjaro International Airport and head for Moshi or Arusha, or arrive on Zanzibar for the beach. We meet you in the arrivals hall, follow your flight if it is late, and drive you straight to your hotel; on Zanzibar you can also fly to your resort by helicopter.

Zanzibar airport transfers to your hotel are also US$60 per person each way. Helicopter transfers from Zanzibar Airport to the island's resorts start from US$720 per helicopter. How Our Airport Transfers Work

  • Send us your flight number and arrival time when you book
  • We track your flight, so a delay doesn't leave you without a ride
  • Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name
  • A private vehicle takes you straight to your hotel; nobody else is picked up on the way
  • For departures, we collect you from your hotel in good time for check-in

Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) sits between Moshi and Arusha, about an hour from each. Most international flights land in the afternoon or evening; after immigration, visa checks and baggage, allow about an hour before you reach the arrivals hall. If you arrive at night, we still meet you, and your hotel knows you are coming. See where to stay before and after a Kilimanjaro climb.

Zanzibar Airport Transfers

Abeid Amani Karume International Airport is just outside Stone Town. Drive times depend on where you stay: about 15 minutes to Stone Town, about 1 hour to Kiwengwa or Paje, and 1–1.5 hours to Nungwi or Kendwa. Transfers cost US$60 per person each way. Remember that Zanzibar requires the mandatory inbound travel insurance; we can help you buy it before you fly.

Helicopter Transfers on Zanzibar

For a faster and unforgettable arrival, a helicopter can fly you straight from Zanzibar Airport to your resort, with private landing sites at many leading hotels. Prices are per helicopter, for up to 4 passengers:

Flight from Zanzibar Airport to June–December 2026 (up to 4 passengers)
Kiwengwa, Pongwe, Uora and Bawe Island US$720
Pingwe, Dongwe, Matemwe and Kijambani US$900
Paje, Jambiani, Nungwi, Kendwa and Kilindi US$1,080
Pemba: Fundu Lagoon US$2,340
Pemba: north coast resorts US$3,060
Dar es Salaam US$2,340
Extra scenic time added to a transfer 10 minutes US$360; 20 minutes US$630
  • Prices are per helicopter, not per person, one way
  • Landing fees are extra: US$40 per person at Zanzibar Airport and US$65 per person at Dar es Salaam Airport
  • Luggage: up to 15 kg per person in soft bags, about 50 × 25 × 30 cm; hard cases and wheeled suitcases don't fit, but extra luggage can follow by road
  • Fast-track arrival service at Zanzibar Airport on request
  • From January to May, larger 5–6 seat helicopters fly, at higher rates: from US$1,160 to the closest resorts and US$1,740 to Paje or Nungwi

Scenic flights can start from any landing site; see our helicopter flights page.

Other Transfers in Tanzania

We also arrange transfers to park gates, between towns and to the ferry port in Dar es Salaam, and self-drive cars if you prefer to drive yourself; see self-drive car hire.

Tips for Your Arrival

  • Keep your hotel name and our WhatsApp number (+255 678 992 599) handy when you land
  • Have your visa approval and inbound insurance certificate printed or on your phone
  • Withdraw or change a little cash at the airport for small tips
  • If your bag is lost, report it before leaving the baggage hall; your driver waits

Book your transfer with your trip and send us your flight number. If you arrive late at night, stay near the airport or in Moshi and travel on in the morning; it's safer and more comfortable than a long drive after a long flight.

Transfers for Climbers and Safari Guests

If you are climbing Kilimanjaro or going on safari with us, your airport transfers are already included: we meet you on arrival and take you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, and drive you back to the airport after your trip. Transfers between the climb and the safari, or to the airport for a Zanzibar flight, are planned as part of your itinerary.
