5-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Safari Itinerary from Arusha

The standard route gives the Serengeti two nights and separates the Ngorongoro crater day from the return to Arusha. Exact departure times, accommodation locations and game-drive length can change with gate procedures, road conditions, weather and the lodge or camp confirmed for your booking.

Day 1 – Arusha to Serengeti National Park

We collect you from the confirmed Arusha pickup point in the morning and begin the road journey toward the Serengeti through the northern Tanzania highlands and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is a long transfer day, normally taking much of the day once stops, gate formalities and road conditions are included. After entering Serengeti National Park, you continue with an afternoon game drive if time allows before dinner and your first overnight in the Serengeti.

Day 2 – Full-Day Serengeti Game Drive

Day 2 is devoted to the Serengeti. Your driver-guide plans the route around your camp location, recent wildlife information and seasonal conditions. You may use a picnic lunch to remain in the field or return to camp depending on the confirmed program. An optional sunrise balloon safari can be added only when availability, operating area, weather, age/participation rules and the additional price are confirmed in writing. Day 3 – Serengeti Game Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you have another opportunity for Serengeti wildlife viewing before travelling toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The afternoon is mainly a transfer toward your confirmed lodge or camp near the crater/highlands. If an Oldupai Gorge visit or cultural stop is requested, we confirm the extra timing and any additional charges before adding it to the itinerary.

Day 4 – Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

After an early breakfast, you descend into Ngorongoro Crater for the main crater game drive. Your guide searches across the crater-floor habitats for resident wildlife and plans a picnic-lunch stop where permitted. Later in the day you ascend from the crater and continue to the accommodation confirmed for your final safari night.

Day 5 – Return to Arusha

After breakfast, you drive back to Arusha and are dropped at the location confirmed in your itinerary. A Tarangire or Lake Manyara game drive is not automatically included in the standard Serengeti–Ngorongoro package; either park can be discussed as a customised extension if your timing and quotation allow. This keeps the advertised five-day itinerary clear and avoids promising an additional park without enough time or a confirmed fee.

Best Time for a Serengeti and Ngorongoro Safari

You can visit both destinations throughout the year, but the experience changes by season. The Serengeti migration moves continuously across a large ecosystem, so there is no single month that guarantees the herds at one exact place. Ngorongoro has substantial resident wildlife year-round, while road conditions and scenery change between drier and wetter periods.

• June to October: generally drier conditions and easier wildlife spotting in many areas, with busy peak-season periods.
• November to March: greener landscapes in many areas and seasonal migration movement toward the southern ecosystem when conditions are suitable.
• April to May: wetter conditions can bring lush scenery and fewer vehicles, but some roads can be slower and rain may affect daily plans.
