Return to camp for a late lunch and take some time to rest and recharge with a refreshing siesta. The afternoon is a chance for both riders and horses to relax and rest their muscles, so you'll be ready for more adventures in the days to come.
Today is set to be a challenging day, as we embark on a lengthy journey spanning approximately 60 kilometers. Moreover, the weather conditions are expected to be harsh, with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Celsius.
Our journey will commence by leaving the volcano behind and entering a riverbed that will offer some respite from the scorching sun. Afterward, we will traverse an open landscape before finally reaching our lunch spot. Once there, we can relax under the cool shade of the towering acacias situated close to another riverbed. This will allow us to recharge our batteries for the last leg of the journey.
As the sun begins to set, we will reach our final destination for the day, which is located near the hot springs. We will spend the night here, taking in the breathtaking views of the lake.
After a hearty breakfast, we embark on a 45-minute walk towards the hot springs situated on the eastern shores of Soda Lake. This is a welcome change from yesterday's long and arduous ride, which left us feeling drained and covered in dust. Taking a refreshing dip in the hot springs adds to the day's excitement and rejuvenates our spirits.
Lunch will be served at the springs, and we can either walk or drive back to our campsite. In the late evening, we set off on another ride, taking advantage of the cooler hours before darkness descends. This is also an ideal time to spot hyenas and jackals scouring the mud flats of the lake for food.
We will depart early in the morning, bidding farewell to the dry and hauntingly beautiful lake. Following the familiar riverbed, we will make our way back to the lush and verdant grasslands situated at the foot of Oldonyo L'Engai.
We will spend the night at a location that has become familiar to us all, providing a sense of comfort and familiarity after a long day's journey.
As our adventure comes to an end, it's time to bid farewell to our trusty horses and riding team. We will pack our bags and set off towards civilization. Our journey will take us to the airstrip, where we will board a light aircraft back to Arusha.
Upon arrival, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at the Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge. We will also have access to a room for taking a refreshing shower and getting some much-needed rest.
You have the option to depart this evening, or we can arrange an additional night's stay (at an extra cost) for you to recover and rejuvenate before returning to your routine.
Arrival back home in the morning
