Day 2: Prison Island tortoises and Stone Town
A short boat ride of about 30 minutes to Prison Island, where Aldabra giant tortoises, some well over a hundred years old, roam the enclosure and children can feed and touch them under the keepers' eye. Back in town, a shortened guided walk through the old lanes, then a drive of about an hour to Kiwengwa.

A day at the resort: explore the rock pools and sand flats when the tide is out, and swim when it comes back in.

A morning walk in Jozani Forest to see the red colobus monkeys, which live nowhere else, and cross the mangrove boardwalk. On the way back, a spice farm where children can taste fruit, smell cloves and cinnamon and watch a farmer climb a palm. Back by early afternoon.
