Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro, a night in Arusha
We meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive you to a garden lodge in Arusha, about an hour away, to rest after the long flight.

Day 2: Tarangire: elephants and baobabs
Your guide collects you after breakfast for the two-hour drive to Tarangire, and the afternoon is spent among the elephant herds, baobabs and the river where the animals come to drink. The night is at a tented lodge inside or beside the park.

Day 3: Up to the Ngorongoro Crater rim
A morning game drive in Tarangire, then up through the green Ngorongoro highlands to your lodge on the crater rim, in time to watch the sun set over the crater floor 600 meters below.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater, then fly to Zanzibar
Down to the crater floor at first light for lions, buffaloes, zebras, hippos and the chance of a black rhino, then the drive back to Arusha for an afternoon flight to Zanzibar. We meet you on arrival for the drive of about an hour to your beach hotel in the north of the island.

A slow morning and a day on the beach. Kendwa and Nungwi face west, so the sun sets over the sea, and the tide stays swimmable for most of the day, unlike the east coast.

Yes, if you keep the safari close to Arusha, as this trip does: three days with Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater, then three nights on the beach.

The Serengeti needs at least two nights to be worth the drive. With one week, a shorter safari leaves time for the beach; for the Serengeti, choose the 10-day honeymoon.
