Who Is the Dar es Salaam Matches and Mikumi Package For?

It suits supporters whose team plays in Dar es Salaam and who want a real safari between two matches without flying north. Mikumi National Park is the easiest big-game park to reach from the city: the new SGR train does the first leg, and a night inside the park gives you the sunset and the sunrise game drives, when the animals are most active.

This package suits you if… Consider another trip if…

Why Mikumi Between Matches?

Mikumi National Park is the closest of the big southern parks to Dar es Salaam, and the open Mkata floodplain makes game easy to see: elephants and giraffes, zebras and buffaloes, lions resting in the shade, and hippos at the Hippo Pools. June and July, the tournament months, fall in the dry season, when the grass is short and animals gather near water. Taking the SGR train for the first leg saves hours on the road out of the city, so a single night is enough for two proper game drives. The full trip is described on our 2-day Mikumi safari by SGR train page, and our Mikumi National Park guide covers the wildlife.

Short on time? A Mikumi day trip from Dar es Salaam (US$482 per person, lunch included) fits a single free day, but it is a long day on the road.

Common Questions About the AFCON Dar es Salaam and Mikumi Package

Are match tickets included?

No. Tickets are sold through the official tournament channels, but we can help: we guide you through the official sale, help you buy tickets for your team's matches and can arrange the purchase for you, then plan the days and transfers around them.

Which stadium is used in Dar es Salaam?

The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Temeke, south of the city center, Tanzania's main national stadium with 60,000 seats. It is one of four proposed Tanzanian venues; CAF confirms the final venues with the fixtures. Your driver takes you there and back on each match day.

How do we get from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi?

By the SGR electric train to Morogoro, about 1 hour 40 minutes, then about 2 hours by road with your guide. By road all the way from Dar es Salaam it takes 4.5 to 5 hours.

Is Mikumi as good as the Serengeti?

Mikumi is smaller and quieter, with elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, lions and hippos on open plains close to Dar es Salaam. For the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, combine your matches with a northern safari from Arusha, a domestic flight away at US$450 per person each way.

Why is there no fixed price yet?

We are confirming hotel rates in Dar es Salaam for the tournament, so the full package is quoted for your dates and hotel level. The other parts already have fixed prices, listed on this page, and your quotation shows each one.

What if the fixtures change or my team goes through to the next round?

We rearrange the free days around the new dates and add nights or match transfers if you stay longer; each extra match day is US$40 per person for the return transfer, or US$30 per person for groups of four or more.

Is Jaynevy Tours an official AFCON partner?

No. We are an independent Tanzanian tour operator based in Moshi, and we arrange travel around the tournament; we are not affiliated with CAF or the organizers.
