The prices include airport transfers and a night in Arusha where the itinerary starts at the airport; the 4-day and Big Five safaris start from your Arusha hotel.

How Much Does a Luxury Safari Cost per Day?

For two travelers, about US$835 to US$1,130 per person per day on our luxury packages. The lower end is a classic route with nights at lodges inside the parks; the upper end is the fly-in safari, with two flights and three nights at a camp near the Mara River. Shorter trips cost a little more per day, because the vehicle, crater fee and transfers are spread over fewer days.

What Makes a Luxury Safari Cost More?

The wildlife and the game drives are the same at every level; the price rises with things that make the days easier and the nights more special. In order of how much they usually add:

  • The lodges: luxury lodges and camps cost several times as much per night as mid-range ones, and the best camps often include drinks and laundry.
  • Nights inside the parks: a lodge inside the Serengeti or on the crater rim saves hours of driving, but each night inside adds a concession fee per person, set by season.
  • Remote camps and flights: camps in the northern Serengeti are a long day's drive from Arusha, so most trips fly at least one way, which adds about US$400 per person for the flight from Kogatende to Arusha.
  • Season: lodges charge their highest rates from July to October and around Christmas; April and May are the lowest.
  • Group size: the vehicle, guide and crater fee are shared, so the price per person falls as more travelers join.

How Group Size Changes the Price of a Luxury Safari

Lodges are priced per person, so they don't get cheaper in a bigger group, but the vehicle and the crater fee do. The 7-day private luxury safari per person, by the number of travelers:

Travelers Luxury, per person Same route at mid-range
1 US$7,905 US$5,310
2 US$5,845 US$3,910
3 US$5,400 US$3,405
4 US$5,370 US$3,435
5 US$5,195 US$3,225
6 US$5,215 US$3,280

A solo traveler pays the most, because the whole vehicle and a single room fall on one person: US$7,905 for the 7-day trip. Joining our luxury small-group safari brings a solo traveler down to US$5,540 for six days with a room of their own.

Which Park Fees Are in a Luxury Safari Price?

All of them, on every package we sell. The fees are the same at every lodge level; only the concession fee depends on where you sleep. The 2026 rates:

Fee 2026 rate (incl. VAT)
Tarangire National Park About US$59 per person per 24 hours
Lake Manyara National Park About US$59 per person per 24 hours
Serengeti National Park US$82.60 per person per 24 hours
Ngorongoro Conservation Area (also charged when you drive through) US$70.80 per person per 24 hours
Concession fee (nights inside the parks and on the crater rim) Per person per night, by season
Ngorongoro crater service fee US$295 per vehicle per descent

The full list of fees is in our guide to Tanzania safari costs.

How to Save on a Luxury Safari Without Losing the Luxury

You don't have to pay luxury prices every night to have a luxury safari. Ways our guests keep the cost down:

  • Mix lodge levels: keep the luxury for the Serengeti and the crater rim, and sleep at a mid-range lodge in Arusha or Karatu.
  • Travel in the shoulder months: June, November and early December have the same lodges at lower rates than July to October.
  • Share the vehicle: a luxury small group keeps the lodges and splits the vehicle and crater fee.
  • Drive one way instead of flying both ways: our river-crossing safari drives north and flies back, which costs less than two flights.
  • Stay longer in fewer places: two or three nights at one lodge means less driving and more time to enjoy it.

How Season Affects the Cost of a Luxury Safari

Season changes the lodge rates more than anything else, and it also decides where the migration herds are. A guide to the year:

Months Lodge rates What you see
January to March High, especially at Ndutu in February Calving season on the southern plains; see the luxury calving safari
April and May Lowest; some camps close Long rains, green landscapes, few visitors
June Shoulder Dry season begins; the herds move west and north
July to October Highest River crossings in the north; see the luxury river-crossing safari
November and early December Shoulder Short rains; the herds return south

Is a Luxury Safari in Tanzania Worth the Cost?

It depends on what you value. The animals are the same; what you pay for is location, space and service. A lodge inside the Serengeti or on the crater rim means less driving and earlier starts, and a fine room and good food make long, dusty days easier. For a honeymoon, a big birthday or a once-in-a-lifetime trip, most of our luxury guests find it worth it. If wildlife is all that matters, a mid-range safari with one or two luxury nights is a good compromise.
